Identifier: host_id

Type

string

Description

The unique id identifier of the workstation. This identifier cannot be redefined.

Although this is a string identifier, its value is a hexadecimal value. If the machine has a unique identifier (e.g. most unix workstations have one) this is used. If the machine does not have one (e.g. a Windows PC), then the id is formed from the machine's MAC address.

If for any reason a unique id cannot be established, the string value ffffffff is used.
